Tantalus For Sale!

We got another tantalus set in!

First your mythology lesson for the day:
Tantalus was a Greek mythological figure, most famous for his eternal punishment in Tartarus. He was made to stand in a pool of water beneath a fruit tree with low branches, with the fruit ever eluding his grasp, and the water always receding before he could take a drink.

The protagonist always being "tantalized" for the fruit that is eternally out of reach is an analogy to the the servants of the liquor caddies owner. Always wanting the fruit/liquor but never being able to acquire it!

When unlocked it looks like this...

This is a detailed shot of the parquetry work on the liquor caddy. Awesome.

These are extremely rare and coveted; so first come, first served!

Step Stools

One of my son's favorite things to carry around the house is a stepstool I made for him to brush his teeth and climb into the bed at night. These are simple and cheap and are alot easier (and better looking) than lugging a ladder out of the garage!

The inlay is curly-maple and the body is walnut. Finished with boiled linseed oil.

I left the circular saw marks on the top to give it that rustic/reclaimed look.

CONTAINER IS ON THE WATER!!

Container will be here September 19th! We are excited to get all the remaining pieces from our last buying trip. Click THIS LINK to see some of the pieces on the ship!

New Farm Table

A four-plank black walnut table. If you look closely (the pictures can be enlarged by clicking them) the outside boards are bookmatched and the inner two boards are bookmatched! All the lumber came from the SAME TREE!

The legs and skirt are made from Red Oak, very strong have a great grain pattern when shellaced, painted and distressed.

Hell, we even made a bench from the last plank of the tree!

The customer saw the set of benches I had put on this blog and said I want the same ones! 8)

Refurbished Ikea Table

I had a little ole lady come in awhile back with a formica top table and she wanted something nicer, but she wanted to keep her old base. I told her we could knock one out using any type of wood she liked. She chose walnut, which happens to be my favorite wood to work.

This is what we made to size for her...

When placed on her MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard aka Ikea wood) base we ended up with a real good looking table.

Converted Hunt Cabinet

I have a great customer who is a BIG game hunter. When I bought this piece from a military guy in Ozark, all I could imagine is how cool it would be in his Trophy Room. It's a highly carved French Oak Hunt Cabinet from the last quarter of the 19th century.

See some of the over-the-top details of the piece...

We decided to convert it into a gun cabinet. Using crimson felt for the gun barrels and the stocks and soft white LED lighting we ended up with the interior looking like this...

We custom fit the rests to accomadate his ecclectic collection of rifles and shotguns.

DIY Walnut Speakers

A good buddy of mine and I are making some Teak amped speakers for his music and home and it got me looking at nice speaker cases for inspiration. In that scouring the internet, Ive been eye-ing a set of desktop speakers that were better looking than what I have had over the last several years...

Harmon Kardon are the "new Bose" type speakers. Not extremely good on the highs and lows, but a solid speaker. I had seen these on several different sites here lately. Priced at a hefty $450 for the pair...

Out of sheer DIY-ism, I decided that I could make them myself out of my old, ugly speakers...

The final product...

If anyone is looking to something similar, do not hesitate to contact me and I'll give you some pointers. Trust me I went through ALOT of lumber perfecting the process.

1950's Double Coca-Cola Cooler

1950's Coca-Cola Double Cooler has arrived
and runs like the day it came off the line! Has surface rust in small spots; but has that worn patina, more than the beatup look.

Makes the perfect garage cooler or sunroom refrigerator. I'd take it home myself if I had the space in my garage! They sell on eBay for $1000 to $1400. Come in and say you saw the Coca-Cola cooler on our blog and you can walk out with it for $750!

Bookmatched Bird's Eye Maple Table

Best looking Maple lumber Ive ever worked!
